All the recipients honored by Trump at the State of the Union

During his recent State of the Union address, President Donald Trump conferred a series of honors and medals. Let’s take a look at those recognitions.

1. Connor Hellebuyck, Presidential Medal of Freedom

Connor Hellebuyck, the goaltender for the U.S. men’s hockey team, was pivotal in securing the gold medal—the team’s first in 46 years. Following their historic victory, he and his teammates were welcomed to the White House. At the address, Trump announced that Hellebuyck would receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the country’s highest civilian honor, noting that the team unanimously supported this decision.

Trump further emphasized the team’s greatness, saying, “What extraordinary champions you are.”

2. Andrew Wolfe, Purple Heart

Andrew Wolfe, a member of the National Guard, survived a brutal ambush in November, where he was shot. Against all odds, he attended the State of the Union with his mother. In recognition of his bravery, President Trump awarded him the Purple Heart. Governor Patrick Morrisey of West Virginia highlighted this poignant moment, stating it would ensure Wolfe’s courage is celebrated nationally.

3. Sarah Beckstrom, Purple Heart

Sarah Beckstrom received the Purple Heart posthumously at the address. She tragically lost her life during the same ambush that injured Wolfe, at just 20 years old. Her parents accepted the honor on her behalf, marking an emotionally significant moment, as noted by Morrisey, who stated that West Virginia will remember her service and sacrifice.

4. Scott Rascan, Legion of Merit

Scott Rascan, a U.S. Coast Guard air rescue technician, was recognized for his extraordinary efforts during devastating floods in central Texas, where he saved around 170 individuals, including children from Camp Mystic. Trump awarded him the Legion of Merit and recounted a moment where he rescued an 11-year-old girl, showcasing Rascan’s heroism.

5. Eric Slover, Medal of Honor

Chief Warrant Officer Eric Slover received the Medal of Honor for his bravery in capturing former Venezuelan dictator Nicolas Maduro, despite sustaining severe injuries. Trump acknowledged Slover and his wife, Amy, who were present at the event. Trump’s remarks underlined the incredible courage displayed during the mission.

6. Lois Williams, Medal of Honor

Retired Navy Captain Royce Williams was also awarded the Medal of Honor for his service across multiple wars, including World War II and the Korean War. During the event, First Lady Melania Trump honored him, emphasizing his legendary status after a dramatic dogfight against Soviet aircraft in 1952. He is now celebrated on his 100th birthday with the recognition he rightfully earned long ago.
