Kai Trump’s LPGA Debut
Kai Trump is set to make her debut in the LPGA on Thursday at Annika at Pelican Golf Club, located in Bellaire, Florida.
The high school senior recently committed to the University of Miami, adding to an exciting week as she prepares to tee off at 12:32 p.m. ET.
She’ll take her first swings of the day from the second-to-last tee, joining fellow golfers Hinako Shibuno and Olivia Cowan at the 10th hole. Notably, she’ll be starting just a few groups behind Nelly Korda, who has won three times, and Charlie Hull.
Other notable golfers like Lexi Thompson and Rose Chan will also be in the lineup.
The 18-year-old golfer qualified for a sponsorship exemption that recognizes up-and-coming talents, accepting the invitation right away and diving into practice.
In a recent press interaction, she expressed her appreciation, saying, “It’s an honor. I want to thank the LPGA and the Doyle family for this chance. Competing in my first LPGA event as a high school senior is really incredible.”
She also shared, “Regardless of the outcome, I expect to learn a lot. I’m just going to enjoy it. Competing against the best players, experiencing their game—it’s going to be a great opportunity.”
Trump admitted to feeling a mix of nerves and excitement ahead of her debut.
She’s also garnered attention on social media, mainly through YouTube, where she has showcased recent moments with her grandfather at the Trump National Golf Club and their trip to the Ryder Cup.
“I don’t think about him in the context of politics. To me, he’s just my grandfather, and we play golf a lot,” she noted in an interview. “That’s our usual thing.”
In closing, Trump reiterated her aspirations, emphasizing, “My goal is to become a professional, and I’m committed to giving it my all.”
