Lakers legend James Worthy reportedly had some harsh words for the team in a leaked video slamming Bronny James.
Worthy, a former three-time NBA champion forward who now works as an announcer for the Lakers’ network, Spectrum SportsNet, suffered a hot microphone incident before JJ Redick’s press conference on Monday announcing his appointment as the Lakers’ new head coach. According to LakersDaily.com.
According to videos posted to social media by Lakers fan accounts, the Basketball Hall of Famer was speaking with media crews after Monday’s show, slamming the way the team restructured its roster and praising LeBron James’ son.
“Who are we waiting for on day two?” Worthy reportedly said.
“Hey, wait until we have to talk about it that night,” someone is heard saying. “It’s going to be a blow, it’s going to hurt us.”
A voice believed to be Worthy sarcastically replies: “Well, he’s the best young player of all time right now. That’s Bronny. That’s what I’m saying.”
Another person said it’s “crazy” that the Lakers are on their third head coach in five years.
“And they brought in the right coach. So they did the right thing … they took their time,” Worthy was quoted as saying. “They waited while we made the trade. [Brandon] Ingram, [Julius] Randle…Kentavious Caldwell-Pope is gone, his brother is in Sacramento, Malik [Monk] If it’s gone…we have nothing. [Russell] Westbrook is gone.
“…So the ink translates to infrastructure issues.”
James, who suffered cardiac arrest during practice last July and missed the start of his freshman year at USC, went unselected on the first day of the 2024 NBA Draft, which took place Wednesday at Barclays Center.
This wasn’t a surprise to many, as the 19-year-old guard was projected to be a likely second-round pick.
James attended the first round of the draft.
However, Rich Paul, who represents many of the players in this year’s draft, was in attendance.
