“Crocodile Alcatraz”: A New Detention Proposal

Florida Attorney General James Usmier recently referred to the proposed “Crocodile Alcatraz” as an ideal facility for holding undocumented immigrants, particularly those accused of crimes against children, during his discussion on Breitbart News Daily.

Usmier aims to convert the Miami-Dade Collier training facility into this detention center, which has received the green light from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

He noted that Florida has been proactive in supporting President Donald Trump’s federal immigration enforcement efforts, stating that the state boasts some of the best law enforcement departments in the country. With collaboration from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), thousands of arrests have been made, which, he says, has strained prison capacity.

“The federal government is seeking more resources as we tackle this matter nationwide. We’re willing to establish temporary facilities in Florida to better manage detainees and, ultimately, reunite them with their home countries,” he explained.

Usmier highlighted that he had several locations in mind, but expressed a particular fondness for “Wannial Catraz,” a site encompassing 30 square miles of Everglades. He described it, perhaps somewhat lightheartedly, as an ideal venue.

“Our aim is to get thousands of beds operational as swiftly as possible to assist the Trump administration,” he expressed, with hopes for the facility’s opening by early July.

He added, “Everyone involved is adapting quickly, but we now require detention spaces that didn’t exist before, at a time when individuals were allowed to operate without restrictions.”

When faced with questions about criticism surrounding these centers, particularly regarding the treatment of immigrants during the summer heat, Usmier responded with context.

“Just last week, we apprehended an MS-13 gang member, right before I announced a life sentence for an undocumented immigrant convicted of violently assaulting a young girl and trafficking another person,” he stated.

Usmier emphasized, “This represents just one example of the child predators linked to illegal immigration. My primary concern is the safety of American families and children. While some may portray this issue as innocent, the reality includes dangerous gang members and traffickers.”

“We strictly adhere to federal laws and provide necessary medical services. These new facilities will genuinely help alleviate the overcrowding currently seen in other detention centers nationwide,” he concluded.
