Almost 70 percent of progressive voters think Biden should suspend campaign: Poll

A new poll finds that nearly 70% of progressive voters say President Biden should suspend his campaign following his performance in last week’s debate.

The Our Revolution poll surveyed more than 17,000 progressive Democrats and found that 67 percent said it was time for Biden to step down.

Calls for a new nominee have been muted in recent days by the White House and Biden’s campaign, who say they are ready to defeat former President Trump.

Biden’s lackluster debate performances have caused panic among Democrats about whether he can lead the country and challenge Trump at the polls in November, but he has not lost his significant support from progressive voters.

Only 32% of respondents said they were less likely to support Biden after the debate, and 57% said his performance in the debate had no effect on their support.

The results have prompted Democrats to find an alternative candidate to become the party’s top candidate, but suggest Democrats may follow suit if Biden stays in office to face Trump.

The investigation was first reported by Politico Playbook on Tuesday.

Fifteen percent of progressives said they were unlikely or very unlikely to vote for Biden if he remains the nominee, and 11% said they weren’t sure what they would do. Sixty-five percent said they were very likely to vote for Biden, according to the survey.

In general, progressive voters said they were worried about Trump winning the election. After the debate, 38% said they felt sad, 35% felt frustrated and 11% felt angry. Only 9% of progressives said they felt energized or hopeful, according to the survey.

The Our Revolution poll was conducted via email to 17,410 progressive voters within the 72 hours immediately following the debate.
