TThe story of this rambling shaggy dog from Hong Kong is peppered with eccentric antics. This is the story of a stray mongrel dog called Piggy (played by mongrel Little) who saves a man from suicide not once, but twice. The man is Kai (Lawrence Cheng), a recently retired, miserable grump who lives alone. Like Larry David, he's not afraid to tell people exactly what he thinks (and like Larry David, it can be excruciating to watch). However, Piggy has a crush on Kai, and when he discovers Kai about to hang himself in the woods, he intervenes in Super Doggy style.
In every sense of the word, Alone No More is a traditional heartthrob, pushing a sentimental message about the benefits pet ownership has for the mind and body, and making a case for social isolation among the elderly. . As expected, Kai adopts Piggy and his angry outbursts begin to stop being precursors to heart attacks. Soon he even becomes involved with a local dog rescue charity run by Una (Amy Lo), a woman in her 20s. Una avoids her mother but indulges Kai's moodiness. His own daughter Zoe (Fish Liu) can barely stay in the room with him.
The film is honest about how we get caught up in family relationships, and these insights are juxtaposed with a crazy plotline about a dog killer stalking the city spreading poisoned spam. It comes out. There is also further heroism from Piggy, who once again brings Kai back from the brink (the second time she saves him with a look of love rather than force). Warning: Brace yourself for some sad news about Little during the end credits.
