CBS reporter Amanda Barionis expressed her gratitude for being recognized at the Liv Golf event, especially after she chatted with Scotty Scheffler during the 2025 PGA Championship in Charlotte on Sunday.
She commended Jon Rahm and Bryson DeChambeau for making time to speak with her after Rory McIlroy, a fellow pro, opted out of media interactions for the fourth consecutive day.
Barionis shared images from her conversation with Rahm and DeChambeau, commenting, “It’s great that they took a moment to talk amidst the chaos. It reminds us that engaging with the media is a choice, and having those conversations can really resonate with the fans.”
McIlroy, who claimed the 2025 Masters title, struggled at the Championship, landing only 70 of 74 players on the fairway.
His overall score came to three over par at 287.
Last Tuesday, Arishman’s Taylormade QI10 driver was deemed unsuitable for the PGA Championship, forcing him to play with a backup.
McIlroy finished with one over in each of the last two rounds, placing him outside the top 40.
Barionis highlighted Scheffler’s “resilience and skill” during his performance at the Championship.
She noted, “The World Number 1 has shown again why he firmly retains his title. Even after struggling with a shot on the front nine and seeing Rahm close behind, Scotty exhibited impressive composure to secure his first PGA Championship victory by a margin of five strokes.”
She added, “The back nine displayed yet another exemplary performance under pressure. At just 28, this three-time major champion is continually pushing the boundaries of excellence…”
In May, Barionis attracted media attention when reports linked her to McIlroy after he filed for divorce from his wife, Erica Stoll. However, they have since reconciled, and McIlroy’s divorce request was withdrawn.
Neither McIlroy nor Barionis commented on the initial report, describing it as “a linking story.”
