Amazon’s Latest Job Cuts Affecting Fewer Than 1,000 Workers
Amazon is set to lay off fewer than 1,000 employees, primarily within its stores division, which supports its main e-commerce platform, as reported by Reuters.
This announcement follows the company’s recent October Prime Big Deal Days sales event, which took place on Tuesday and Wednesday.
These reductions come in the wake of significant layoffs totaling around 30,000 employees that started last year and extended into January.
A source familiar with the situation indicated to Reuters that this new round of job cuts affects fewer than 1,000 people.
Business Insider was the first to highlight these layoffs.
According to internal Slack messages reviewed by Reuters—shared by employees who will be impacted—multiple divisions may be affected, including customer service and selling partner services, among others across the company.
It appears that employees in the U.S., India, and the United Kingdom could be among those facing job losses.
An Amazon spokesperson mentioned, “We’ve adjusted parts of our Stores business because we believe this structure will better enable us to deliver on our priorities.”
FOX Business has reached out to Amazon for further comment.
Traditionally, Amazon’s founder, Jeff Bezos, has previously discussed the company’s broader workforce changes during an interview with Fox News’ Bret Baier. He remarked that Amazon was in a “very special position,” having notably expanded its workforce during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Bezos also addressed societal concerns regarding artificial intelligence and its potential effects on jobs, expressing disagreement with predictions of negative outcomes.
