Amazon Launches New Grocery Line
On Wednesday, Amazon introduced Amazon Grocery, a new private label brand that merges popular items from Amazon Fresh and Happy Belly into a single collection focused on grocery essentials.
This new brand offers over 1,000 grocery products, including staples like milk and olive oil, as well as meat and seafood, with most items priced under $5.
Jason Buechel, who is the vice president of Amazon Worldwide Grocery Stores and CEO of Whole Foods Market, mentioned that this launch is timely, especially as consumers are increasingly mindful of their expenses.
With Amazon Grocery, Buechel stated, customers can more easily explore and shop from Amazon’s extensive private label food options while still ensuring value without compromising quality. This aligns with what customers expect.
The company noted that many of the products in the selection have received four-star ratings or higher from shoppers. This includes various items such as cageless eggs, sliced bagels, shredded parmesan, baby carrots, and ground beef.
To kick off the launch, Amazon is also introducing new items like fresh baked cinnamon rolls, refrigerated pizza dough, and bottled spring water. Plus, it’s expanding with options like frozen pasta and pie stuffing, granola, and a wider variety of frozen vegetables than before.
The packaging for the new brand aims to use less plastic and presents a “modern” and “clean” look with bold lettering, according to the company’s statement.
In 2024, sales from Amazon’s private label brands saw a 15% increase compared to the previous year, covering areas from groceries to household products to clothing.
Amazon Grocery products are now accessible nationwide through Amazon.com and Amazon Fresh, both online and in physical stores, although availability might vary by location.
This announcement follows a recent development where the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) agreed to a $2.5 billion settlement related to allegations that customers were misled over payments for their prime subscriptions.
Amazon has not yet responded to requests for comments on this matter.
