Amazon Unveils New Devices with Enhanced AI Features

SAN FRANCISCO – Amazon recently launched an updated range of devices designed to boost home security and showcase its newest AI-powered voice assistant, Alexa+.

During an event in New York, the tech giant introduced various products, including refreshed Echo speakers, Fire TV streaming devices, and an upgraded Kindle reader, alongside enhanced Ring and Blink cameras set to hit the market soon.

Amazon aims to reignite excitement around Alexa, having poured significant resources into advancing its AI capabilities. The goal here is to make the service more personal and engaging, ultimately turning it into a more profitable venture after years of operating at a loss.

The newly designed Echo devices, which include smaller models like Dots and Show gadgets priced between $99 and $219, are now equipped with faster processors and fully integrated with Alexa+.

Meanwhile, the updated Blink cameras boast higher resolution for improved indoor and outdoor monitoring. Ring cameras have also received upgrades, featuring facial recognition technology intended to help identify unfamiliar visitors.

Additionally, these new Ring cameras will work with Alexa+, utilizing AI to determine if someone is dropping off a package or potentially attempting to break in. Prices for these devices range from $60 to $350, depending on features and camera quality.

“It’s crucial to know instantly if your visitor is someone familiar or a stranger,” noted Jamie Siminoff, who returned to lead Ring after a brief hiatus. He further introduced a feature aimed at helping locate lost dogs in the neighborhood by enabling notifications to community members with Ring devices. This function is set to roll out in November but is presently limited to dogs.

“We’re transforming individual worries into collective actions,” he explained.

Panos Panay, Amazon’s device chief, showcased the Kindle Scribe, a $630 tablet that supports stylus writing and features a color display for the first time. “Using it feels like writing on paper,” he remarked.

Additionally, Amazon presented upgraded Fire TV models, which range from $160 to $480 and include a $40 streaming stick. These devices also incorporate new Alexa+-enabled capabilities, allowing users to ask the assistant to find specific movie scenes or provide details about particular actors.
