American Express will change Centurion Lounge access guidelines beginning in 2026.

Changes to Centurion Lounge Access by American Express

The competition for airport lounge access is heating up, and American Express is stepping in with some new rules.

As reported by TPG, starting July 8, there will be changes to the access rules for the Centurion Lounge. AmEx aims to enhance the lounge experience, allowing cardholders and their guests to enjoy a more comfortable environment while traveling.

Updates on Guest Access Rules

The updated policy introduces two significant changes.

First, guests accompanying a cardmember will now need to be on the same flight to gain entry into the Centurion Lounge. Previously, guests didn’t have to be onboard the same flight, which provided more flexibility for travel companions.

Secondly, AmEx is implementing new time-based restrictions. Starting on July 8, cardmembers and eligible guests can access the Centurion Lounge only during their layover hours, up to five hours before their next departure. This aligns their access policy more closely with those of other airport lounges.

These changes will affect several cards: American Express Platinum Card®, American Express Business Platinum Card®, American Express Corporate Platinum Card®, Delta SkyMiles® Reserve American Express Card, and Delta SkyMiles® Reserve Business American Express Card. The adjustments will apply to Centurion Lounges in the U.S. and select international locations, including London Heathrow, Tokyo Haneda, and Hong Kong International Airport.

American Express has expressed its commitment to maintaining a high-quality lounge experience for eligible cardholders as the demand for lounge access continues to rise.

Conclusion

While this policy won’t take effect until mid-2026, it highlights an ongoing trend towards tighter access regulations in airport lounges. Those who often travel with guests or have extended layovers should consider these new rules when planning their travels.
