American Man Killed in Thailand in Violent Love Triangle
An American citizen lost his life in Thailand due to a violent dispute involving an ex-girlfriend, her new partner, and three others. The incident occurred in Bangkok on February 16.
Reports indicate that 54-year-old Stein Heath Cole had reached out to his ex-girlfriend, 24-year-old Nan Port Al Cho, asking her to rekindle their relationship. Shortly after, it’s claimed that her current boyfriend, 26-year-old Soe Nai Lin Oo, and three accomplices confronted him around 4:30 PM.
Authorities noted that the altercation escalated when Cole arrived at the scene wielding a 10-inch kitchen knife. Following the clash, the four individuals were charged with “jointly assaulting another person resulting in death.”
Cole, originally from California, was found brutally attacked, suffering from broken legs and five stab wounds. Nearby, a knife and a metal pipe were discovered.
The suspected attackers included Soe Kyaw Win Tun, Soe Kyaw Tun Paying, and Tien Oo, who is the brother of Cole’s ex-girlfriend. In a twist, one of the suspects ended up injured during the incident and required hospital treatment.
Colonel Sonchai Poonpol, who oversees the Bangmod police district, reported that the conflict stemmed from personal issues. According to him, Cole struggled to accept the end of his relationship and reportedly continued to pursue his ex-girlfriend, leading to the confrontation. While the suspects acknowledged they hadn’t intended to kill, the situation spiraled out of hand.
Before this tragic event, Cole resided alone in an apartment just across from where the fight occurred. Local police mentioned that the woman’s family disapproved of her previous relationship with Cole.
“The incident was fueled by a personal relationship dispute,” Poonpol commented. “The woman’s family did not support her association with Cole and sought to separate them. He was described as aggressive, prone to outbursts, and a heavy drinker. Previous tensions had reportedly existed between her family and Cole.”
In terms of his lifestyle, Cole did not have a job and lived alone in the building where the incident took place. Authorities are in contact with the American embassy regarding the matter, and all four suspects face serious charges.
