The final words of celebration were said by Fritz’s girlfriend, Morgan Liddle, who appeared to mock Zverev in a post on her Instagram Story.

“When your guy wins over the girls,” she wrote, referencing allegations that he assaulted a woman in 2020.

“Ladies, let’s all speak out and support each other,” Riddle wrote in another post.

Zverev settled his domestic violence case out of court with his ex-partner, who had accused him. A German court closed the case in June. Zverev agreed to pay about $162,000 in fines to the state and about $54,000 to charities.

Prosecutors alleged that Zverev pinned the woman against a wall and choked her during an argument. Zverev has pleaded not guilty.

Against Fritz, Zverev seemed to take issue with the cheers he heard from his opponent’s box in the fifth set. “It was a bit too much,” he said.

Taylor Fritz returned the shot.

Zverev also acknowledged that he was playing through a knee injury.

“I was playing on one leg,” Zverev said. “I was definitely not 100 percent today. I wasn’t moving at all during the match. I wasn’t running to hit a drop shot. If I was running to hit a drop shot, I was dragging my foot more than I was running.”
