What a buzzkill moment, right?
David Hyde Pierce, known for his role on “Frasier,” apparently called out his “Wet Hot American Summer” co-stars, Paul Rudd and Amy Poehler, for being too loud before they started filming the 2001 movie.
Poehler recounted on her podcast, “Good Hang,” a moment when Pierce stepped out of his room and asked them, “Can I be a little quieter?”
“Yeah, that was his first day,” Rudd chimed in. “We were just a bunch of crazy kids—so ready to let loose.”
Both recalled spending their nights wandering the area together, enjoying music and drinks until the wee hours.
“But looking back, we weren’t really kids. We were in our 30s,” Poehler pointed out.
Rudd noted, “I guess I was just in my late 20s.”
Pierce had a busy day ahead on set.
“We were all wondering, ‘What do we think about this guy?”” Rudd mentioned.
Poehler had thought Pierce was just practicing his lines in his room while he was actually reveling in loud fun.
“It was his first night, and none of us knew him. It was about 1 AM, and things were rowdy. He was supposed to film the next morning and was holed up in his room,” Rudd described.
“I remember him coming out and just stopping at the door as if all noise turned off. We were all completely silent. It was like, ‘Whoa, who is this?’ He was super fun and cool, like, ‘Thank goodness for him.’”
Poehler added, “He was the kindest and most wonderful person, but he definitely had to wonder, ‘What’s happening here?’ And we all realized we weren’t really working that night anyway.”
Poehler confirmed that the cast was quite small.
Interestingly, this film came out the same year she became part of “Saturday Night Live.”
It also led to Netflix producing a prequel in 2015 and a sequel in 2017, with Pierce, Poehler, and Rudd all involved in those projects as well.
