Amy Schumer and Chris Fischer End Their Marriage
Amy Schumer and Chris Fischer’s relationship has officially come to a close.
The actress, known for her role in “Trainwreck,” and the chef confirmed their separation on a Friday, following years of speculation about their marriage. Schumer shared a heartfelt message on Instagram, stating, “Somehow, somehow, Chris and I have made the difficult decision to end our seven-year marriage. We love each other very much and will continue to focus on raising our son. We ask that you respect our privacy at this time.”
In her post, she included a subway photo with Fischer and reflected on how he had lost weight, seemingly joking about it. She added, “Friendly and all the love and respect! Family forever.”
Schumer, 44, and Fischer, 45, secretly tied the knot in 2018 and welcomed their son, Gene, in 2019. However, rumors about their troubled marriage have circulated over time.
Fischer notably stirred curiosity in 2021 when he humorously presented Schumer with a cake that read, “I’m leaving you,” during her 40th birthday celebration. She captured the moment in an Instagram video, where the atmosphere turned serious as he offered her a candy amidst family singing.
In the summer of 2023, the couple spent time apart, with Schumer vacationing in Europe alongside Jerry Seinfeld and his wife, which fueled further speculation about their relationship.
Leading up to the announcement of their split, Schumer had been posting about her weight loss journey and sharing ambiguous updates on her marriage. Sources suggested to a media outlet that they were indeed on the road to divorce, with a friend stating, “Amy is 100 percent divorced. She’s lost weight and is over it.” They reported that Fischer was not very active socially, with properties listed in New Orleans and Brooklyn.
Despite the rumors, some sources maintained that the couple was “privately working through the normal issues that long-married couples have” and remained committed to their relationship.
As the situation unfolded, Schumer even removed her wedding ring for a social media post, which further ignited chatter about their divide. On December 2, she addressed the breakup directly, asserting that it wasn’t linked to her weight loss or Fischer’s autism diagnosis, indicating, “We worked hard to get through. He’s the best.”
Quickly after posting, she deleted that reel, hinting at her turmoil, yet they appeared together in public, including at Lille with their son.
By mid-December, the buzz regarding their relationship had intensified, with sources claiming there was little chance of reconciliation. “They’ve had problems for years,” one insider noted, explaining they were working on a plan for conscious separation. The focus now is on how they can co-parent amicably, prioritizing their son’s well-being.
