An ABC insider wishes liberals will learn this lesson from the Jimmy Kimmel situation

An ABC insider recently conveyed a message aimed at liberals, stemming from the aftermath of “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” It’s, well, quite intriguing when you think about it.

“I hope this serves as a lesson for the left—and, perhaps, even the right—regarding the issue of defining hate speech,” they said. “If you’re inclined to label hate speech based solely on political opposition, then the call to criminalize it seems misplaced.” The same applies, they suggested, for the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).

Interestingly, neither Disney nor ABC has commented on the situation when contacted.

Following comments made by ABC regarding the Charlie Kirk assassination case, tensions flared. Many liberals expressed outrage at ABC’s decision to suspend Jimmy Kimmel’s show.

Disney finds itself under pressure not just from ABC affiliates but also from the FCC concerning how they’ve handled late-night host Jimmy Kimmel’s remarks about the Charlie Kirk case involving Tyler Robinson. A Disney spokesperson confirmed that “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” would be “indefinitely” pre-empted.

Kimmel had suggested that Robinson was connected to a certain group, which contradicts previous reports of his left-leaning beliefs. The situation became even more complicated when Kimmel commented on the “Maga Gang” and their attempts to manipulate the narrative around Robinson. “We hit some new lows this weekend,” Kimmel stated, addressing the audience.

Meanwhile, both the Nexstar Media Group and Sinclair Broadcast Group communicated to ABC they would withhold airing “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” starting with their affiliate stations, unless something changed with the Disney-owned networks.

The FCC Chairman, Brendan Kerr, also issued a warning to ABC and Disney, emphasizing the need for improved handling of the situation. “We can approach this problem gently or aggressively,” he noted. Kerr has made it clear he intends to prioritize public interest upon taking his role as FCC chairman.

One broadcast journalist seemed puzzled by Kerr’s comments. “When he talks about ensuring that license holders uphold the public interest, it raises questions about who gets to define that,” they remarked.

As the drama unfolds, the implications of Kimmel’s remarks and the subsequent suspension continue to generate discussion and debate.
