‘An industry so terrified of risk’

Francis Ford Coppola is roaming the worst manager Razzies victory of 2025.

The Oscar winner, 85, was given the title at the Notorious Awards show for the 2024 sci-fi drama Megalopolis, starring Adam Driver, Aubrey Plaza, John Voight and Sheara Beouf.

The big-budget film was a commercial flop that cost $120 million and earned just $14.6 million at the box office.

It was also panned by critics, including Johnny Olexinski of the Post

But Coppola applauded after doing something honoured or rather dishonorable to Lathers on social media.

The veteran director wrote Instagram On Friday, “We are excited to accept the Razzie Awards in so many important categories of @Megalopolisfilm. And for the outstanding honor of being nominated for worst director, worst script, and worst photo, few have the courage to go against the general trends of modern MovieMaking.”

It took a while since then to look back at Hollywood and filmmaking in their current day and age.

“In today's world wrecks where art is scored as if it were professional wrestling, I chose not to follow the brave rules cut by the risk-affirming industry, as I am unable to create a picture of myself living 50 years from now despite the huge pool of young talent.”

Coppola said, “What an honour to stand with a great and courageous filmmaker like the totally poor Jack Tatty to create one of the most beloved mistakes in cinemas: playtime!”

“I would like to thank all my incredible colleagues who joined me to create my work of art, Megalopolis, and remind us that the box office is all about money,” he continued.

Many fans showed their support for Coppola in the comments section.

One follower wrote: “Megalopolis was a masterpiece that was Mr. Coppola. Me and my friends still think about it almost every day.”

Another screamed, “I praise you, sir. Keep walking to the beat of your own drums. I hope many others had the courage to do so.”

To conclude the sweet comment, “Rajies himself wrote in his respect for the FFC as a filmmaker, particularly in recognition of our award for humble and meaningful statements.”

Coppola began developing “Megalopolis” in the late 1970s, shedding light on a long-standing vision of Roman epics in modern-day New York.
