A24’s “Backroom” Movie Mistaken for Something Else on FOX11 LA

A24’s “Backroom” is supposed to be a chilling experience, but a recent mix-up by a FOX11 LA anchor adds a darker twist to the narrative.

During Friday morning’s segment, anchor Bob DeCastro humorously revealed that he mistakenly thought the film’s title was “Backdoor” instead of “Backroom.” He admitted to looking up the wrong title.

“It’s a whole different genre,” said entertainment anchor Amanda Salas with a playful tone. “It’s a completely different movie.” While she attempted to steer the show forward, laughter erupted from the anchors.

“Back door!” DeCastro exclaimed, finding the humor in his blunder. He tried to squeeze in more jokes, but co-anchor Jennifer Lahmers raised her hand to interrupt him, lightheartedly urging him to move on.

“Good morning,” she interjected as they transitioned to the traffic update. “How are you doing?” Later, Lahmers shared a clip of the segment on Instagram.

“I can’t take this man anywhere,” she wrote, poking fun at DeCastro.

Some viewers joined in on the jokes. KTLA journalist Andy Riesmeier commented, “@bobbydtv Do you have a link to the screener?” Another user noted the awkwardness, while a third quipped, “Love the new ‘Backdoor’ movie.”

“Backroom” premiered on Friday and has received high praise, boasting an 89% critic score and 74% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. The film, directed by Kane Parsons and featuring stars Chiwetel Ejiofor and Renate Reinsuv, exceeded box office expectations, raking in between $85 million and $88 million.

A review described the film as a “disturbing and clever new horror movie,” originating from a web series that delves into the unsettling notion of being trapped in an infinite maze of shifting rooms.
