It seems that the initial American milestone regarding Peter’s chair wasn’t just a way to stop ABC’s Conclave anchor from making remarks about the new Pontife baseball team.
On Thursday afternoon, white smoke signaled that the Cardinals had chosen a new Pope. Cardinal Robert Prebble, hailing from Chicago and now known as Leo XIII, has made history as the first American Pope.
ABC’s Terry Moran, a Cubs supporter, along with co-anchor David Muir, didn’t waste time integrating this detail into their coverage of Leo XIV.
“All we’ve heard is that he’s a Cubs fan from the south side of Chicago. You really get a sense of his quiet and humble spirit,” Muir noted.
“I mean, that’s probably how he managed to endure being a Cubs fan down there.”
“That’s definitely true, David. And let’s not forget, he’s well aware of the struggles in the sports world, particularly as a Cubs fan. After all, they haven’t won a World Series in 108 years. Some teams just have these long droughts, and he understands that.
“But, hope springs eternal. They seem poised for a good year. It could mean something for his team.”
Users on X expressed their delight at the idea that the Pope might support the Cubs.
Is Pope Leo XIV really a Cubs fan? We haven’t heard any word from him personally, though his brothers seem to challenge that notion.
Pope Leo XIV faces numerous urgent matters now, with the first being to clarify which baseball team he actually supports.
