Cuomo’s Shift in Approach

Andrew Cuomo, the former governor and current mayoral candidate, announced on Monday that he would refrain from kissing people on the cheek unless he initiates the gesture himself.

“I’ve learned a painful lesson,” he shared during his appearance on ABC’s “The View.” “It’s crucial to be much more mindful about what you say—jokes and comments included.”

Cuomo, who resigned in 2021 amidst serious allegations, emphasized, “I won’t kiss anyone unless I start it. There’s a new sensitivity out there that has to be respected.”

A thorough investigation led by state attorney general Letitia James in 2021 concluded that Cuomo had harassed numerous current and former state employees, violating federal and state laws.

The report depicted the 67-year-old Cuomo as a leader who, according to underlings, would “groped, kissed, hugged, and made inappropriate remarks.”

Despite the serious findings, Cuomo dismissed the report as politically motivated, arguing that many of the allegations were not brought up during criminal investigations or civil lawsuits. “Nothing came from these claims,” he stated.

He acknowledged, “If I had been upset with someone, I wouldn’t have intended it.”

Reflecting on this tumultuous period, he called his exit from office a “very painful time for me and my family.”

Cuomo, running as an independent following a setback in the Democratic primary against Socialist Congressman Zohran Mamdani, is set to compete in the general election on November 4th.

In the race, he will also face Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa, the founder of the Guardian Angels.

Incumbent Mayor Eric Adams, who chose not to participate in the Democratic primary, recently ended his re-election campaign amid disappointing poll numbers and diminishing donations.

During the same interview, Cuomo suggested that President Trump and the Republicans are eager for Mamdani to win, as it aligns with their strategy to undermine Democrats in the upcoming midterm elections. He remarked, “Trump is using Mamdani as a tool, portraying Democrats as extreme.”
