A Romanian appeals court on Tuesday overturned an earlier ruling that allowed internet celebrity Andrew Tate to travel between European Union countries while awaiting trial on human trafficking charges.

The sentence came after Tate was indicted in 2023 along with his brother Tristan and two Romanian female suspects on charges of human trafficking, rape and forming a criminal ring to sexually exploit women – all charges they deny.

They are barred from leaving Romania while they await the start of their trial.

Tate and his brother Tristan had just celebrated two weeks ago after being given permission to leave the country for the first time in two years.

The internet personality appeared on X on July 5th.Number Announcing the news, he declared, “I am free… the false case is falling apart.”

Earlier this month a Bucharest court released them from detention and granted the four suspects freedom of movement within the European Union, but prosecutors challenged the decision and the Bucharest Court of Appeal overturned it on Tuesday.

“We accept the objection raised by the DIICOT, the prosecution agency for combating organized crime,” the court said in a statement.

“The defendants’ request to replace the obligation not to leave Romanian territory with an obligation not to leave the European Union is rejected as without basis.”

Meanwhile, the Tate brothers are the most high-profile suspects on trial in Romania on human trafficking charges.

“God has a plan for me and I am following His decisions,” Tate told reporters in court Tuesday.

“If I get shot in the head, I get shot. If I’m free, I’m free. If I’m at home, I’m at home. I’m happy. I’m not emotionally involved in any process. I’m going to follow the law. I’m going to respect the Romanian judicial system. Whatever decision they make, I’m going to follow it.”

In addition, the brothers were detained by police pending criminal investigation from late December 2022 to April 2023 to prevent them from fleeing the country or tampering with evidence.

As a result, they were placed under house arrest until August, after which the court took the lesser precaution of placing them under judicial control.
