Palmer Luckey’s Early Support for Trump
Palmer Luckey, the founder of Anduril Industries, shared an interesting tidbit on the Joe Rogan podcast recently. He reminisced about writing a letter to Donald Trump when he was just 15, suggesting Trump should consider running for president.
“I guess you could say I was one of the early supporters,” Luckey joked, using the phrase “original gangster” to describe himself. This was back around 2009 or 2010, before most people were thinking along those lines. He recalled posting about his support on Facebook, emphasizing how unique he found Trump compared to typical politicians.
Interestingly, Luckey explained how many people assume he only backed Trump due to his rhetoric in 2016, but he had actually appreciated that style of communication much earlier. He remembered how things felt more moderate back then, a time before the political landscape became so polarized.
During the conversation, they reflected on Trump’s consistency on key issues throughout the years, even recalling his appearances with Oprah Winfrey in the 1980s. Luckey critiqued both major political parties, asserting that, honestly, anyone could have been a better choice than what the establishment was promoting at that time.
“I think that’s the best arguments,” Rogan agreed, adding that it’s a common sentiment among many who feel disenfranchised by the system.
Luckey further expressed how amusing he found it when his friends labeled Trump as a “warmonger.” He argued, “How can we call him a warmonger when he advocates for pulling back from foreign conflicts?” And that certainly provokes thought, doesn’t it? It’s interesting how perceptions can shift over time, and perhaps even individual opinions aren’t as black and white as they seem at first glance.
