Cheers to a good year!
Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen started drinking on their New Year's Eve show after CNN banned them last year.
Cooper, host of “Anderson Cooper 360°,” and Cohen, host of “Live What Happens Live,” both made sure to always be on their best behavior. I drank all the tequila during the broadcast.
The topic of CNN's alcohol restrictions came up within minutes of the broadcast starting live from Times Square at 8 p.m., when Cohen, 55, asked Cooper, “Does your dad drink juice?”
“When it comes to traditions, right now is the best. We've been doing this work here for seven years, and for most of those years, we usually have a toast at the beginning of time,” Cohen says. “And I feel like I'm hearing that from a lot of people. I guess they're just wondering, “Is daddy drinking juice?''
“Dad, can you juice responsibly?” Cooper retorts, and Cohen says, “Dad, can you drink the juice responsibly?” everytime. “
However, Cooper broke the news to Cohen that he did not bring alcohol to the annual hosted gig.
Cohen quickly grabbed a large yellow tote bag and revealed a giant bottle of tequila.
“Anderson, this is why I'm a really good partner for you. Got it! We're doing this!” Cohen says as he and Cooper pour a glass of tequila.
“Anderson I love you so much. Thanks for having me, cheers everyone, Happy New Year, let's go,” Cohen tells his co-hosts, and they drink tequila together.
After the hosts shared a New Year's shot, Cooper looked back at a smiling Cohen who was handing him a glass and looked disgusted at the taste of the alcohol.
“Wow, I feel so relaxed now!” Cohen said.
When the ball dropped on Dec. 31, CNN's CEO Chris Richt ordered his staff to ban on-air talent from drinking alcohol during their shows, leading to a crackdown on alcohol consumption. has been strengthened.
Licht discussed the ban at a town hall meeting early last year, saying drinking on the show damaged CNN's credibility in the eyes of viewers. According to a variety report.
The move comes after Cohen openly criticized then-New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio on CNN's New Year's Eve special last year, calling Paul a “terrible mayor” in his farewell message.
“The only thing Democrats and Republicans can agree on is what a terrible mayor he has been. So, goodbye, son of a bitch! Mr. Cohen said Mr. Cooper needs to be retained.
Cohen had begged CNN to allow him to drink alcohol on air.
“Last year didn't go well in terms of viewer satisfaction with what we're drinking. People really cared, so I hope CNN gives people what they want. ” he said in November.
Cohen and Cooper have been hosting the New Year's Eve Live with Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen show since 2017.
