Comedian Andy Dick experienced what appeared to be a drug overdose in Hollywood on Tuesday. Footage showed onlookers quickly administering Narcan to assist him.
The 59-year-old was found slumped against a wall by a staircase, seemingly unconscious. Images revealed him dressed in a brown jacket, pajama pants, and Crocs, appearing limp with his unique rectangular glasses resting on the ground nearby.
Witnesses, including some of Dick’s friends, rushed to help, with one shouting “wake up” while others called for an ambulance. Fortunately, after receiving Narcan, he responded positively to the emergency opioid overdose treatment.
When first responders from the Los Angeles Fire Department and Police Department arrived, he regained consciousness. However, according to a spokesperson from the LAFD, Dick—whose real name is Andrew Tomlinson—declined additional medical care or transportation to a hospital.
He later informed an outlet that he was “alive and well,” but didn’t delve into further details.
Over the past few years, Dick has encountered serious legal challenges. He was convicted of sexual assault in November 2022 after an incident in which he allegedly groped an Uber driver in April 2018. This led to a 90-day jail sentence and a requirement to register as a sex offender.
Shortly after, in January 2023, he faced arrest for public intoxication and failing to register appropriately. Additionally, he had a run-in with the law in May 2022 when he was arrested on charges of felony sexual battery, following accusations from a man named “JJ.” The charges were ultimately dropped as the alleged victim ceased cooperating with the investigation.
