Concern Surrounds Chiefs’ Josh Simmons
There’s a bit of uncertainty surrounding Josh Simmons of the Kansas City Chiefs lately.
Before Wednesday’s practice, head coach Andy Reid chose his words carefully when addressing the rookie left tackle’s situation. “Regarding Josh Simmons, I’m not going to comment today,” Reid stated. “That’s handled by [general manager Brett] Veach. Let’s leave it at that.”
Simmons missed Sunday’s victory against the Lions, having been marked as questionable before the game. He had to return to California to address some family matters.
With Simmons unavailable, Jaylon Moore stepped in as the starting left tackle for the Chiefs, and it seems he’ll keep that role for the upcoming game against the Raiders unless Simmons comes back or the team makes a shift.
Interestingly, Patrick Mahomes hasn’t spoken much about the whole situation. “We’re going to keep the conversation between us,” he mentioned. “But I pray for him regularly, for all my teammates, really. Beyond that, I’d prefer to keep things private.”
Simmons, who came out of Ohio State, was the 32nd pick in the draft this past April. He took over the left tackle position, which has been a challenge for the team in prior seasons.
Positive News for the Chiefs
Meanwhile, the Chiefs have received some good news regarding star wide receiver Lachie Rice. He is set to return from a six-game suspension.
Reid expressed optimism, stating, “I think he’s eager to return and participate again. It’ll be beneficial for him to practice and get back into shape. We’ll see how he adapts, but he’s been focusing hard and seems to be in a good place.”
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler recently shared that the wide receiver is in “top condition” and the Chiefs plan to quickly integrate him back into the lineup with substantial responsibilities.
