Andy Reid Discusses Travis Kelce’s Future

As Travis Kelce contemplates retirement, Andy Reid expressed that there’s potentially a shared interest in his return for the 2026 season. Reid mentioned during a news conference on Friday that communication is key between them.

“They have a good way of talking to each other,” Reid noted. “That’s what matters most. As I’ve said before, if there’s communication, I’m satisfied. People are eager to look ahead, and I think that’s where Travis stands right now.”

After wrapping up the regular season, Kelce hesitated to commit to a 14th NFL season, suggesting he needs time to adjust to life outside football. Yet, Reid is open to his return. “I don’t want to overstep here. He definitely deserves some space to think,” Reid commented. “He’s been in this game for quite a while, so he’ll make his own decisions as we go along. We’re just moving forward.”

In January, Kelce seemed to hint at rejoining the Chiefs when discussing the potential of bringing back offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, who had previously filled that role from 2018 to 2022 before heading elsewhere in 2023.

Kelce shared his enthusiasm about Reid’s possible return, saying, “I can’t wait to see him back with us. He’s one of my favorite coaches and a fantastic person. I’ve learned so much under his guidance, both as a player and an individual. I really appreciate him, and having him back in the building will be amazing.”

During Super Bowl week, it was reported that many close to Kelce believe he’ll play at least one more season. At 36, he enjoyed a productive year despite a challenging season for the Chiefs, accumulating 851 rushing yards and five touchdowns.

Regardless of Kelce’s decision, Kansas City aims to rebound in 2026 after a disappointing 6-11 record, which resulted in missing the playoffs for the first time since 2014.
