Phoenix Mercury Beats Chicago Sky 107-86
The Phoenix Mercury took control of the game against the Chicago Sky on Saturday, winning 107-86 at Wintrust Arena. It was quite a performance, really.
Sky Forward Angel Reese had a tough outing, managing only nine points and two rebounds. Usually, she’s known for her strong presence on the boards—averaging about 11 rebounds—but didn’t make much of an impact this time.
As a team, the Sky struggled significantly, recording only 22 rebounds in total. They fell to a disappointing 3-9 in the standings, with five losses in their last six games. In contrast, Kamilla Cardoso and Michaela Onyenwere were the bright spots, both scoring 17 points.
The Mercury, on the other hand, set a franchise record by sinking 17 three-pointers in the match. Sami Whitcomb led the charge for Phoenix, hitting five of those threes and finishing with 17 points.
What’s interesting is that six players from the Mercury hit at least two three-pointers, tying a WNBA single-game record. They shot impressively from the field, making 35 out of 68 attempts overall and hitting 20 of 24 free throws, resulting in a solid 25 assists.
The win marked the Mercury’s fifth straight victory, improving their season record to 11-4. Satou Sabally contributed 15 points, while Alyssa Thomas had 11 points and added eight assists. Both Brown and Kitya Raksa also scored 11 points apiece.
Looking ahead, the Mercury will face the New York Liberty next Friday, while the Sky will be trying to bounce back against the Atlanta Dream this Sunday. It’ll be interesting to see how both teams respond after this game.
