Angel Reese, a player for the Chicago Sky, showed up at Sashay at the United Center in Chicago on Saturday. She posed for the media like a seasoned fashion model before her team faced a tough loss against the Indiana Fever, who played without their star player, Kate Linklark.
Reese arrived at the arena dressed in thigh-high black boots, a furry trench coat, and a fluffy black hat, which seemed a bit excessive for the mid-’70s temperatures. Video footage captured her striking a bold pose, almost like she was gearing up for a fashion shoot before heading to the locker room.
However, despite her fashionable appearance, her performance on the court against Indiana Fever faltered. Clark, still sidelined by injury, was left on the bench, and she’s been clear about not wanting to rush her recovery, saying she’ll only return when she feels ready.
Clark’s absence put the Chicago Sky in a favorable position—but they didn’t capitalize on it, ultimately suffering from a heavy defeat.
Even though facing a team missing a key player, the Chicago Sky ended the game with a disappointing score of 79-52. Despite her stylish appearance, Reese’s stats reflected the struggle, with three turnovers, four points, and twelve rebounds.
Four of Reese’s attempts were layups, yet only two were blocked by a Fever defender, and she missed an additional three shots. Remarkably, only one of her rebounds came from her own missed efforts.
It’s perhaps even more disheartening that the Sky hosted the game at the United Center, hoping for a large turnout since Linklark’s Fever was in town. Typically, the Sky plays at the smaller Wintrust Arena, but ticket prices were drastically reduced to just $3, indicating they might have been trying to draw in spectators in any way they could.
