Angelina Jolie’s Bold Visit to Kherson

Angelina Jolie made headlines with her daring visit to Kherson, a region in Ukraine that many avoid due to its perilous circumstances. The Academy Award-winning actress stepped into the front-line combat zone on November 5, spending time in both a maternity ward and a pediatric clinic.

Initially, Alisa Orlova, deputy editor of Kiev Post, thought reports about Jolie’s visit were meant as a joke. She later realized that the actress had indeed ventured into an area where even seasoned war correspondents often hesitate to go. “There are attacks on Kherson almost daily,” Orlova remarked. “Rockets could hit the city in less than a minute. Then, video evidence started popping up online showing Jolie with children in the hospital. She was really in Kherson.”

Orlova noted that locals appreciated Jolie’s visit, thanking her for not letting fear hold her back. Pictures surfaced showing the actress surrounded by toys in the pediatric clinic. Local outlets indicated that her journey was part of a humanitarian effort, and the military governor of Kherson honored her with a commemorative coin.

Jolie has a history of working in conflict areas, having filmed in places like Bosnia, Cambodia, and Chechnya. However, Kherson is often deemed the most hazardous.

Orlova confirmed the authenticity of Jolie’s visit, suggesting that if she were just seeking publicity, a safer trip to Kiev would have sufficed. Unfortunately, there were complications during her visit as one of her drivers was detained near Mykolaiv. Despite identifying himself as part of Jolie’s entourage and a peacekeeper, he was taken to a recruitment office due to being of military draft age.

He was eventually released, but there’s word circulating that he might have faced further consequences. “There are rumors he was fired after the trip and may join the military, but we can’t say for certain,” Orlova added.
