Joe Adell’s Unfortunate Blunder on the Field
This season, Angels outfielder Joe Adell has showcased some remarkable skills. However, on Tuesday night, he encountered a rather embarrassing moment.
In the fourth inning against the Rockies, a fly ball from TJ Rumfield hit Adell in the head before sailing over the wall for a home run. It was reminiscent of that infamous Jose Canseco incident.
The odd play seemed to encapsulate the night’s events, with the Angels leading 7-0 right before the home run, yet they soon found themselves trailing by eight runs after that hit.
Rumfield, facing an 0-2 count, sent the ball soaring off Grayson Rodriguez. It looked like Adell might have had a chance to catch it, but then things went south.
Some fans initially thought the ball stayed in play, but Rumfield managed to reach second base, confirming the hit was a home run.
This blunder starkly contrasted with Adell’s impressive catches throughout the season, including one from just the night before. In a game against the Rockies, he caught a fly ball hit by Mike Trout during the sixth inning.
Additionally, Adell had an outstanding performance earlier in the season, where he caught three home runs in a single game against the Mariners on April 4. That feat is believed to be a first in MLB history.
Fans might recall a similar moment from May 26, 1993, when Carlos Martinez’s fly ball hit Jose Canseco on the head, also resulting in a home run. It’s a reminder that even the best can have rough moments on the field.
