Anger Grows After Trans Athlete AB Hernandez Takes California Girls Track Title

A California transgender athlete has drawn renewed criticism following a win at the women’s track and field championships on Saturday.

AB Hernandez, a transgender girl, garnered attention for her participation in the CIF State Track and Field Championships held at Buchanan High School in Clovis, California. new york post.

Hernandez, representing Jurupa Valley High School, competed in the girls’ long jump. This isn’t the first controversy surrounding her. Throughout the year, she has been the focal point of protests staged by parents concerned about maintaining fairness in women’s sports against transgender athletes.

While Hernandez claimed third place in the event, protests were held outside the venue, emphasizing opposition to transgender participation in women’s sports.

Protesters displayed signs such as “No Boys. No Prejudice. Only Fairness” and “Save Women’s Sports,” indicating their strong sentiments.

Others voiced frustrations at tournament officials for their policies, stating a win by a transgender girl amounted to taking opportunities away from cisgender girls.

Hernandez finished third with a jump of 20 feet, 2 1/4 inches, while Ellie McCaskey-Hay and Gianna Gonzalez secured first place, each with jumps of 20 feet, 3 1/2 inches. Colin Jones also tied for third with Hernandez due to a recent change in state regulations.

The new rules, effective last year, state that if a transgender athlete ranks in a postseason event, the next closest cisgender female athlete shares the placement.

This rule was meant to address some parental concerns, although Hernandez’s mother expressed dissatisfaction, feeling the rules were unfairly applied. In May, she criticized the CIF’s approach.

“The big, tough former athletes at CIF didn’t have the courage to directly address this troubling situation with my child,” she stated.

Hernandez herself expressed joy in her participation, stating, “My heart was full during AB’s competition.” She shared her excitement on social media and praised her child’s determination and spirit, emphasizing her graceful approach to the sport.
