“Keep your hands out of your pockets,” bartender Mike expressed frustration to The Post on Wednesday.
He added, “It should be unconstitutional. I’m not funding the world, just myself. Nobody wants you digging into our wallets.”
A proposed mileage tax, supported by Democrats, aims to replace the current gas tax with a fee based on distance driven. This could mean an extra $228 to $1,026 annually for drivers in California. If you consider the state’s average annual mileage of about 11,400 miles, the fee might range from 2 to 9 cents per mile.
Sophia, a waitress who drives extensively across Southern California for work and family obligations, noted she wasn’t surprised by these new proposals that might further inflate already high costs.
“We are in an unprecedented oil crisis,” commented oil expert Mike Ariza.
Experts highlight that many refineries are shutting down operations in California, fueled by regulations that lead to operating expenses being 26% to 37% above the national average.
