Angry young man faces murder charges related to homelessness

A young construction worker in Los Angeles has been charged with murder and petty theft, following an incident linked to his anger over the city’s homelessness issue.

Vincent Wolf, 23, is accused of fatally shooting 29-year-old Travis Harker in the San Fernando Valley on August 5. Before the arrest, Wolf had expressed his frustrations about the homeless population on Instagram.

Living with family near an RV camp in a rundown area, his social media posts often criticized the behaviors of homeless individuals. One post cited in a warrant stated, “They’re shitting and pissing in the streets,” and he described their actions as violent.

Wolf also voiced his contempt for political figures across the spectrum and expressed concern for vulnerable populations, saying, “Elderly people among young people don’t deserve this.” Prosecutors suggested that his feelings towards the homeless influenced his violent actions.

When initially detained, Wolf claimed he shot Harker in self-defense. However, after learning about surveillance footage, he altered his narrative.

According to LAPD investigator Benjamin Sade, Harker, known for his drug addiction and vehicle break-ins, allegedly threatened Wolf and his dog. Still, the surveillance showed Harker engaged with something on a table outside his RV when Wolf approached and opened fire without any interaction.

Sade noted, “No words were exchanged. The victim didn’t even realize it was going to happen.” Detectives then reviewed Wolf’s Instagram activity and found further evidence of his disdain for the homeless.

With around 72,000 homeless individuals reported in Los Angeles County, there are also approximately 6,290 RVs utilized as temporary housing solutions. Wolf has pleaded not guilty to the murder charges.

The Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office has not provided comments as the case continues. Requests for additional information from both Wolf’s attorney and the LAPD are pending.
