Anita Dunn Takes Heat as ‘Fall Guy’ for Biden’s Debate Performance

Anita Dunn, a senior adviser to President Joe Biden, has reportedly been made a “scapegoat” among the president’s aides for his infamous debate performance.

The Democratic Party is in disarray, with many appearing ready to dismiss Biden as the party’s nominee. Biden, whom special counsel Robert Hur described as an “old man with a bad memory,” acknowledged his poor performance in the debate and vowed to try harder next time.

But Hunter Biden, who was convicted, accused Dunn of “undermining Biden in the debates and suppressing his public comments.” The New York Times report:

Biden’s family and supporters have publicly and privately accused Dunn and others of undermining Biden during the debates and suppressing his public comments, but Dunn’s defenders in the White House say the accusations are unfair. Biden told members of his debate preparation team, which included Klain, Reade and Donilon and other aides, that he was not upset with them, according to two people familiar with the debate.

Hunter Biden, who was recently convicted of a felony firearms offense, has also been frustrated with the approach that Dunn and her husband, Bob Bauer, Biden’s personal lawyer, have taken to put distance between the president and his son’s legal troubles. The president’s son has disputed reports that there was tension between the two.

Still, tensions have risen between Dunn and some of Biden’s inner circle since the debate, with Dunn expressing his displeasure to his allies, according to people familiar with the matter.

Hunter and the White House denied the reports. “I have nothing but gratitude for Bob and Anita’s tireless support of our entire family both personally and professionally over the years, and continue to do so today and in the future,” said Hunter, who is reportedly his father’s “interim chief of staff.”

As Democrats face intraparty fighting, Biden said Tuesday he would reconsider running for president if doctors told him he had health issues.

“If I Had Any Medical Condition,” Biden Said Asked by BET News’ Ed Gordon on Tuesday if he would reconsider his decision to continue on the campaign trail, he said, “If a doctor came in and said, ‘You have this problem, you have that problem,’ I would consider it.”

Several Democratic Party officials privately told Axios on Thursday that Biden will step down as the Democratic presidential nominee “as soon as this weekend.”
