Criminal Charges Threaten Minnesota Officials
Republican Representative Anna Paulina Luna from Florida announced her decision to refer Minnesota’s Democratic governor, Tim Walz, and attorney general, Keith Ellison, to the Justice Department for potential criminal charges.
This move follows testimony before an oversight committee where it was revealed that some Democratic officials might have been involved in a scheme to deceive the Somali community.
“May justice be swift. The American people are tired of being taken advantage of,” Luna stated.
She expressed confidence, based on the recent testimony, that both Walz and Ellison were “knowingly complicit in a Somalia fraud scheme in Minnesota.” Luna later shared her thoughts online.
“Thus, I have referred them to the Department of Justice for criminal charges. It’s time for accountability,” she added, reiterating her sentiment about the public’s growing frustrations.
During the hearing, Luna claimed that both Walz and Ellison were aware of significant fraud dating back to 2017 and 2018 but neglected to address it.
Moreover, she urged for an investigation concerning possible violations linked to a conspiracy to defraud the United States.
“Ellison even agreed on tape to oppose Minnesota’s own Department of Human Services in exchange for political and financial backing from Somalia,” she said.
Republican Congresswoman Kristin Robbins from Minnesota also testified, alleging that under Walz’s leadership, the fraud had been allowed to flourish.
“Walz’s administration has willfully ignored these crimes despite numerous whistleblower reports and investigations by local journalists,” Robbins remarked. “These are serious crimes that betray public trust.” She emphasized that Walz had long been aware of the misconduct yet failed to take action.
Oversight Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) previously requested Walz and Ellison to provide the committee with relevant documents regarding their alleged misconduct, and both are expected to testify before the committee in February.
As Walz’s current term draws to a close, he has announced his intention not to run for a third term. Speculations suggest that the mounting scrutiny over fraud allegations influenced his decision.
In response, former President Donald Trump took to social media, claiming, “The corrupt governor of Minnesota may resign before his term ends, but he’s not running again anyway. He, along with Ilhan Omar and others, was caught red-handed stealing tens of billions of taxpayer dollars.”
