Annemarie Wylie has accused the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) of a “defamation campaign” against her.
The 40-year-old “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” star posted a lengthy message on her Instagram Stories on Saturday after being called out by a medical association for allegedly lying about her medical credentials.
“I do not condone the ASA defamation campaign. I am a CRNA, certified nurse anesthetist,” she wrote on her Instagram Story.
“I'm very proud of my profession. I won't be accused of appropriating a title just because my cast mates needed a storyline on a reality show. This is my real life and It’s my career.”
Ms Wylie said she had never claimed to be an anesthetist and had “great respect” for those in the profession.
“I ask ASAs and other anesthesiologists to show respect for CRNAs,” she continued.
“This type of unhealthy discourse only causes friction and division in the profession. There are political issues between anesthesiologists and CRNAs, and this is what led to their current attacks on me and the CRNA profession. It is explained.”
The reality star newcomer said all anesthesiologists “must always work together” to improve the patient's condition.
“My purpose is to educate the public about who CRNAs are and what we do to provide the highest quality anesthesia care to the people we serve. “, she concluded.
In a second post, Wiley questioned the condition of co-star Sutton Stracke's esophagus and apologized, saying the storyline was “not funny.”
“That story has dragged on for far too long and unwarranted, and I have been dragged into the mud in the process,” she said.
“I just want to emphasize the 'realness' of reality TV.”
Mr Wiley's comments came after the ASA shared a statement on Instagram Thursday features a graphic distinguishing between anesthesiologists and nurse anesthetists.
