Third Death Reported at Burning Man Festival

Authorities have reported a third death linked to the Burning Man festival in the Nevada desert, following the earlier deaths of two men within a short span. This tragic event has now cast a shadow over the gathering that attracts tens of thousands each year.

Pershing County Sheriff Jerry Allen shared in an email that his office was informed about an individual who passed away while being transported from the festival to a hospital near Reno. Unfortunately, he didn’t have further details about the circumstances surrounding this death, as it took place outside his jurisdiction. Questions regarding the matter were redirected to the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office and the local Medical Examiner’s Office. Fox News Digital has reached out to both for insights.

Authorities are still waiting for autopsy and toxicology results concerning the two men who died earlier during the festival. Sheriff Allen noted that, typically, there’s about one death each year at Burning Man.

The first death was reported on a Thursday at Rampart, the temporary medical facility set up for the festival. The victim, a man in his mid-50s, was found unresponsive on the street and subsequently pronounced dead despite attempts at resuscitation.

In yet another incident, deputies were called to Black Rock City on a Saturday after a 60-year-old man was found dead in a trailer he shared with his partner. Investigators found no obvious signs of foul play in his case either. His medical history is not available, and authorities have submitted him for an autopsy and toxicology screening as well.

It appears that the autopsy and toxicology results for both men are anticipated in six to eight weeks. The sheriff’s office has stated it won’t release additional information until those results come in.

Burning Man organizers have expressed their condolences to the friends and family of the deceased, emphasizing their commitment to safety and well-being at the festival. They have also stated that there are support resources available on-site around the clock.

This year’s Burning Man festival kicked off on August 30 and wrapped up on Monday and, at its peak, can draw around 80,000 attendees. It’s widely known for the ceremonial burning of a large wooden effigy, a hallmark of the event that “burners” look forward to each year.
