Rep. Brad Schneider, D-Ill., on Thursday joined a growing list of Democrats publicly calling on President Biden to withdraw from the presidential race after his debate performance late last month rekindled doubts about his competency as commander in chief.
Schneider, in a statement, praised Biden for his accomplishments in office but said it was time for the president to “bravely pass the baton to a new generation of leaders to lead us into the future that he helped realize and empowered us to pursue.”
Schneider cited the example of George Washington, who, despite encouragement from his supporters, declined to run for a third term “for the good of his country and his people.”

“He knew it was time to pass the baton,” Schneider said. “Now, by passing the baton, President Biden has the opportunity to meet this standard and go down in history as one of the greatest leaders of our country, in history. He can lead the transition of power to a new generation that can build a stronger party, a stronger country. If he does not make the right choice, I fear our democracy is in jeopardy.”
Schneider is the 11th Democratic member of Congress to publicly call for Biden’s resignation following his disastrous performance in the recent presidential debates.
While top Biden campaign officials have been trying to do damage control with major donors, the White House and Biden himself have remained adamant that Biden is the right man to lead the anti-Trump wing of the Republican Party. Former President Trump, Presumptive Republican nominee.
Biden, 81, has refused to step down despite calls from within his party for him to do so.

Moore described his meeting with Biden as “honest” and “candid” and said the governors “stand by Biden.”
