Another Harry Potter event sets new ticket sales records, disappointing those who oppose JK Rowling

Vancouver’s Harry Potter Event Breaks Records Amid Controversy

The “Harry Potter: The Forbidden Forest Experience” in Vancouver, Canada, has shattered advance ticket sales records and generated a significant waiting list following backlash against JK Rowling, which reached the local city council.

This event was quite a hit at Stanley Park, with interest hitting unprecedented levels, according to Fever Originals Canada Regional Manager Annie Lou St. Amant. She mentioned that the pre-sale tickets have been remarkably successful, something that’s apparently consistent across all their locations. “I think that really highlights the number of Harry Potter fans out there in Canada,” she noted.

The backlash began in early October, when Vancouver Park Board member Scott Jensen became emotional while apologizing for approving the event, saying it was a decision made alongside other board members. “Your words truly moved me,” he stated. “I’ve experienced pain from this; that’s why I’m sorry on my own behalf.”

Commissioner Angela Haar promised, “This will not happen again.” Later, Commissioner Tom Digby suggested that the board had done the right thing by apologizing for the decision.

In response, JK Rowling addressed her critics on October 9, sharing that she wasn’t even aware of the council’s decision regarding her. “Honestly, it wasn’t a big deal to me,” she wrote.

Despite Rowling’s controversial views, ticket sales indicate that her detractors haven’t significantly impacted the enthusiasm from devoted fans of the series.

The “Harry Potter: The Forbidden Forest Experience” draws on Rowling’s magical universe, providing a night-time trail featuring mythical creatures, mock spell-casting stations, and other attractions. Fever Originals collaborated with Warner Bros. Global Experience to bring this to life.

The event launched in Cheshire, England, back in October 2021 and has since been held in 13 locations worldwide, including cities in the United States like Chicago and Cincinnati.

Local content creator Deanna Wu shared his involvement in the venture via Instagram. While many responses were positive, a few voices of dissent emerged, with one commenter lamenting the support for Rowling’s work.
