Anthony Davis is facing yet another injury setback.

The injury-prone center for the Mavericks has reportedly torn ligaments in his left hand, which could sideline him for “several months” if surgery becomes necessary, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.

The team has stated that Davis is “currently seeking multiple opinions” on the injury.

Even without surgery, he is expected to be out for at least six weeks.

This latest injury occurs as the Mavericks are on the lookout for their 10th All-Star before the February 6 trade deadline. It’s a significant moment, particularly after last year’s surprising deal sending Luka Doncic to the Lakers while bringing Davis to Dallas.

Earlier this week, NBA insider Chris Haynes noted that some rival executives were considering moving Davis before the trade deadline.

Haynes specifically mentioned the Hawks as a potential interest, especially after they made moves to clear their salary cap by trading Trae Young to the Wizards.

Additionally, ESPN’s Tim McMahon reported that while Davis hopes to remain in Dallas, he has requested a contract extension—something the Mavericks might be hesitant to agree to.

Davis is under contract through next season and has a $62.8 million player option for the 2027-28 season.

This injury likely complicates any trade possibilities ahead of the deadline.

Davis’s Mavs debut last February was also marred by a left adductor strain that kept him off the court for over a month and a half. This season, he has only appeared in 20 games due to groin and calf issues.

In total, he has participated in just 29 regular season games since joining the Mavericks.

Currently, Davis averages 20.4 points, 11.1 rebounds, and 1.7 blocks per game.
