Sir Anthony Hopkins to Release Personal Music Album
Renowned actor Sir Anthony Hopkins is stepping outside the realm of film, announcing a new venture into music with the upcoming release of his personal musical recordings.
Hopkins has inked a deal with Decca Classics for a project titled “Life Is a Dream,” which will debut in August. The music, composed by Hopkins, was performed by the celebrated Gustavo Dudamel alongside the Philharmonia Orchestra.
According to a statement from Decca, the album features pieces from various stages of Hopkins’ life, showcasing a composer whose work mirrors the emotional richness and storytelling capabilities that fans have come to know from his film career.
Best known for iconic roles like Hannibal Lecter in “The Silence of the Lambs” and Butler Stevens in “The Remains of the Day,” Hopkins has long had a deep-rooted passion for music. He began playing the piano at the age of four and was already performing compositions by Beethoven and Chopin just a few years later.
In a recent statement, Hopkins expressed, “Music was my first desire and my first wish.”
“I’ve been composing music all my life. Some of these songs have been part of me for decades, and I often revisit them,” he added.
The first single from the album, titled “Bracken Road,” is derived from Hopkins’ work “1947: Suite for Solo Piano and Orchestra.” Decca noted that the song draws inspiration from his childhood experiences in Margam, South Wales.
A number of talented collaborators have come together for this project, including pianist Sergio Tiempo, cellist Gregorio Nieto, the Bach Choir, and the Winchester Cathedral Boys’ Choir.
Reflecting on his musical journey, Hopkins remarked, “My whole life is a dream.” Signing with Decca, he said, “It is the honor of a lifetime, and to work with the distinguished Philharmonia Orchestra along with virtuoso artists like Gregorio Nieto and Sergio Tiempo has truly been a privilege.”
In his conclusion, he offered heartfelt gratitude to Maestro Gustavo Dudamel, noting his crucial role in this musical exploration. “His artistry has turned each note into a deeply meaningful experience, crafting a unique and personal landscape that listeners can truly feel and imagine.”
