Anthony Joshua Speaks on Jake Paul Incident
Anthony Joshua, the British boxer known for his Olympic gold medal, recently shared some intriguing insights during an appearance on the Mr Verzas Podcast. He revealed that he received a “stern message” instructing him to take action against Jake Paul.
With a smile, Joshua commented, “I was given a tough message and a mission was given to me, and that was to eliminate Jake Paul and remove him from our beloved sport, boxing.” He seemed quite confident about the outcome, saying, “Whether it took one round or six rounds, I believe the job was well and truly done. It was definitely done.”
This speaks to a fight in December where Joshua faced Paul and won by knockout in the sixth round. It wasn’t exactly a fair match since Paul, typically a cruiserweight, was up against Joshua, a heavyweight champion.
While Paul exhibited a carefree attitude in the ring—smiling and sticking his tongue out—it wasn’t long before reality hit. He ended up suffering a broken jaw as a direct consequence of Joshua’s powerful punches.
Subsequently, Paul mentioned in an interview that he had to undergo surgery for his jaw and was unsure when he would return to boxing, which cast doubt on his ability to compete in 2026. However, he still managed to secure a substantial paycheck for himself and the mixed martial arts promotion MVP.
In recent developments, MVP is making waves in the MMA scene, having announced a debut card that includes notable fighters like Ronda Rousey and Gina Carano. So, while Joshua might not have ended Jake Paul’s entire martial arts career, it seems he has certainly sidelined him from boxing for the time being.
It remains somewhat ambiguous who Joshua was referring to when he mentioned being “ordered” to take on Paul. Many speculate he could mean the hardcore boxing fan community, which has been vocal in their opinions on the crossover boxer. Interestingly, Joshua has previously made headlines for a dominant KO victory against former MMA champion Francis Ngannou, bringing into question if he’s added yet another name to his list of notable opponents.
