Anthropic Prepares for Potential IPO with Investor Meeting
AI startup Anthropic has planned an investor meeting as it gears up for a possible initial public offering (IPO), which could be significant in the tech sector this year, especially following Elon Musk’s notable SpaceX IPO.
According to reports, Anthropic, known for creating the Claude AI model, is moving forward with its IPO intentions. Financial institutions involved in the process are setting up meetings with potential investors and other executives from the AI sector to discuss their plans.
This investor meeting marks a crucial phase in Anthropic’s IPO preparations. Investment banks are assessing investor interest before kicking off a formal presentation tour and actual stock sale. Recently, the company quietly submitted an IPO prospectus to the SEC but hasn’t confirmed a launch date.
Bloomberg, which first highlighted the investor meeting, indicated that Anthropic could be looking to enter the public market as soon as October, though this timeline could shift. A representative for Anthropic chose not to comment on their IPO intentions.
The three largest Wall Street banks—Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, and JPMorgan Chase—are leading the IPO strategies.
A potential listing from Anthropic would capitalize on the excitement generated by SpaceX’s IPO last June, making it easier for AI-focused companies to go public. This is noteworthy because many large firms have remained private while securing substantial investments from venture capital and private equity.
By moving forward with their IPO plans, Anthropic may be positioning itself ahead of OpenAI, its main competitor. OpenAI also filed for an IPO in June but hasn’t shared any more information about its timeline. Being the first to go public might provide Anthropic a competitive edge, particularly if investor interest in AI softens later on.
Founded in 2021 by former OpenAI executives concerned about that company’s path, Anthropic has made a name for itself, especially with its popular coding tool, Claude Code. The company recently raised $65 billion in funding, valuing it at approximately $965 billion—now surpassing OpenAI’s $852 billion valuation for the first time, which is quite a feat in the crowded AI market.
This IPO effort comes as AI technology garners immense interest industry-wide. With many dedicated to developing and utilizing AI, there are numerous possibilities for businesses to monetize advanced AI solutions. If the IPO happens in October, it would place Anthropic’s public entry in a favorable season for IPOs, although the situation will be closely watched by the company and its banking partners before any final decisions are made.
AI seems to be emerging as a hotbed for large IPOs in the market. There’s ongoing discourse on how various movements can shape AI policies that benefit society, without letting a few entities dominate the narrative or allowing others to gain undue influence.
