Anti-Grooming Campaigner Tommy Robinson to Be Released Early from Prison

Tommy Robinson, the British activist known for his stance against Muslim child exploitation, is set to be released from prison next week. He has been serving an 18-month sentence following a high court ruling that declined to extend his incarceration.

Robinson had previously defied a court order prohibiting him from making further allegations regarding certain Syrian teenagers, whom he had sued for damages after his arrest last October. Initially, he was unwilling to delete controversial social media posts about these refugees, but his legal team indicated in court that he intends to comply with the BBC’s guidelines, which are now part of the court’s requirements.

During Tuesday’s hearing, Judge Johnson noted that Robinson had shown a lack of remorse but had assured the court he would respect future injunctions. The judge stated, “The defendant will be released once he finishes the punitive portion of his sentence, which I understand will occur within the week.”

Robinson’s lawyer, Alex Di Francesco, emphasized that the contested post had been removed, asserting, “The defendant has shown the commitment your sovereignty requires through both his words and actions.”

In April, Robinson’s request to reduce his sentence was denied. At that time, the judge mentioned that steps had been identified to decrease his detention duration, suggesting that accusations of violence by Syrian individuals during his schooling were dismissed.

Additionally, the court rejected a plea from Robinson’s legal team for his isolation from other inmates, arguing that such a situation only aggravated his “complex post-traumatic stress disorder.” After his last significant period in prison, Robinson remarked that his mental health had considerably deteriorated. He claimed threats from Muslim inmates had led him to lose weight and were causing him distress over his food safety.

The individual who filmed Robinson’s court entry faced his own legal consequences, being convicted for a series of sexual offenses against a young British girl.
