As tensions in the region continue to rise, a hack occurred at Beirut's international airport on Sunday, with anti-Hezbollah messages appearing on information screens.
Display screens that normally show arrival and departure times showed a message Sunday accusing the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah of putting Lebanon at risk of war with Israel. Associated Press (AP News) reported. The message reportedly appears alongside the logos of Soldiers of God, a group that has gained attention in Lebanon for its anti-LGBTQ campaign, and a smaller organization called The One Who Spoke. It was displayed.
According to the Associated Press, Soldiers of God denied involvement, but The One Who Spoke shared a photo of the message on social media.
“Hassan Nasrallah, if you curse Lebanon with a war for which you will bear responsibility and consequences, you will have no more supporters,” the message said, according to the cable.
According to the Associated Press, the hack was carried out by a domestic anti-Hezbollah group. The Associated Press also noted that local state media reported that baggage screening had been temporarily suspended due to the hack.
Since the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas war, Hezbollah has targeted Israeli military bases and positions along the northern border, and Israel has fought back. Tensions have escalated in recent weeks following the suspected Israeli assassination of a senior Hamas official on the outskirts of Beirut last week.
Israel and Hezbollah engaged in a fierce gun battle on Saturday, a day after the militant group's leader, Hassan Nasrallah, said they must retaliate for the alleged killing of a senior Hamas official.
“We cannot remain silent about this grave violation because it means all of our citizens will be exposed.” [to targeting]. All our cities, villages and famous people will be exposed,” the Associated Press reported.
