Anti-Israel NJ House candidate who was denied access to ’23 White House event believes he’s on terror watchlist

Khairullah is mayor of Prospect Park, a suburb of Paterson that has the largest Palestinian-American population in the United States.

The district has a large Jewish population, especially in the city of Passaic, and the war between Israel and Hamas is a key issue in the election campaign.

Khairulla, who emigrated from Syria in 1980, blasted Paskril for voting in favor of $26.4 billion in military aid to Israel.

“I have been a vocal critic of the Biden administration’s response to Israeli aggression and the daily massacre of Palestinians in Gaza. I have been a vocal advocate for an immediate and permanent ceasefire and an end to Israel’s occupation of Palestine,” Khairullah said. “I’m tired of seeing our tax dollars being used for genocide, and it’s unacceptable that our elected officials are prioritizing military aid over diplomatic solutions that save lives.”

Khairulla, who is also vice principal at Passaic County Technical and Vocational School, recently posted a photo on his Instagram with embattled Israel critics and New York “Squad” Rep. Jamaal Bowman and Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar.

Pascrill, 87, an Army veteran who served as mayor of Paterson before being elected to the House in 1997, defended his votes to support Israel.

“I voted for new aid to Israel to protect Israel and its people from terrorism, especially in light of Iran’s recent terrorist attacks,” he said. “As President Biden reminds us, peace remains the most important goal. As we have called for, there must be a ceasefire and the full release of the remaining hostages now.”

He also supported aid for Gaza, but stressed that “a ceasefire and the release of hostages is the only path to two permanent states living side by side in peace and security.”

Pro-Israel activists say Khairullah has not condemned Hamas’s October 7 incursion into Israel that sparked the Gaza war.

“I think he supports Hamas,” Rabbi Benjamin Kelsen said.

Before announcing his candidacy for Congress last spring, Khairullah claimed he was being profiled after being denied entry to a White House celebration of the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Fitr and learning he did not have Secret Service clearance.

He claims he was wrongfully placed on the FBI’s terrorism watch list.

He previously alleged that he was detained at JFK airport after returning from a trip to Turkey and interrogated about terrorism in what he called Muslim profiling.

Khairulla declined to comment.

Pascrill is the favorite to win, with strong support from mainstream Democrats on both sides of the Hudson River, including House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries of Brooklyn, Rep. Gregory Meeks of Queens and Rep. Tom Suozzi of Long Island.

Pascrill is co-chair of the Congressional Law Enforcement Officers Association.
