A man in his late 50s said one of the protesters tried to rip the flag from his hands. The next thing he knew, he was being attacked by several protesters.
“A group of them swung me around and threw me into a parked car,” the victim said. “I was completely surrounded by probably six or seven people and they started hitting me on the head.”
The man spoke to local news cameras, but did not want to be identified and said he feared for his child’s safety.
Chicago is home to a large Palestinian-American community and frequently hosts violent anti-Israel protests comparable to Detroit. Last week, threats of protests forced the cancellation of a musical performance by Matisyahu, a Jewish musician who openly supports Israel (and the broader goal of peace in the Middle East).
