A raucous mob of about 100 anti-Israel protesters burned an American flag in Washington Square Park on Independence Day, chanting “Burn it!” as part of an organized “Flood Manhattan for the Fourth of July” demonstration.
Police said at least one arrest was made but did not say what charges the suspect faces.
In the video, a New Yorker in a Yankees cap tries to convince the group, but a man with glasses quickly stops him, gleefully shouting, “Fuck Israel! Fuck America! Yay!” as his fellow spoiled trust fund extremists chuckle in approval.
The camera then pans to a tattered American flag next to a poster of Trump and Biden wearing crowns, with “Death to All Kings” written in large block letters underneath.
The poster is an apparent reference to the Supreme Court’s ruling earlier this week granting the US president “absolute immunity” from prosecution for his “official duties” while in office.
As slogans like “Free Palestine” and “Burn it down” rang out across the park, cameramen wearing keffiyeh hats drew in their lenses to capture the desecration of the flag.
The crowd appeared to burn several different flags throughout the protest.
At one point, a woman walks callously across the Stars and Stripes with the camera lens pointing downward at her feet.
Care had been taken to avoid showing people’s faces in the footage, but the audience was mostly young people.
