A coalition of anti-Trump activists, from George Conway to Bill Kristol, celebrated Thursday’s guilty verdict against the former president, hailing it as a victory for justice.
A Manhattan jury has returned a guilty verdict on all 34 charges against former President Donald Trump in his hush money trial, in which he was accused of falsifying business records to cover up an alleged affair with porn actress Stormy Daniels before the 2016 election. While Trump supporters denounced Thursday’s verdict, anti-Trump activists, known as Never Trumpers, rejoiced.
It is too early to say what impact the ruling will have on the election campaign.
Right-wing media and Republican lawmakers will likely repeat Trump’s claim that this was a witch hunt.
We live in a fractured media environment. It will depend on Biden being able to communicate why he matters to swing voters.

Today’s guilty verdict is entirely correct and no one is above the law.
We expect further convictions to result as the federal trial moves forward.
Trump is now a felon

The jury, the American people, did what you couldn’t and held Trump accountable. https://t.co/g7v8oKltUT

I don’t think a convicted felon should be elected President of the United States.

The big question now is whether a conviction will be enough to tip the tide from former President Trump to Biden ahead of the election on November 5. While accurate polls on the matter will take at least a week, Karl Rove, a mainstream Republican who has previously criticized Trump, said on Fox News this week that a conviction could cost Trump important swing votes in key states such as Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania.
“If he is convicted, we should not underestimate the problem.” Said Karl Rove.
“Think about that: 11% are less likely to vote for him in Michigan, where Donald Trump is up 0.5% on the RealClearPolitics average. Or 2% in Pennsylvania, or 0.3% in Wisconsin,” Rove continued. “So in the close races that we’re going to face, it matters when 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11% of voters are less likely to vote for you.”
