Antonio Cromartie Jr., son of ex-NFL corner, commits to FSU

The son of former Jets star Antonio Cromartie is following in his father's footsteps.

Antonio Cromartie Jr. committed to Florida State University on Monday after traveling to Tallahassee for a school visit the day before.

The younger Cromartie received an offer from FSU on Christmas Day and told reporters after a weekend visit that he hoped to make a decision by Monday.

Cromartie Jr. was captivated by his conversations with head coach Mike Norvell and defensive backs coach Patrick Surtain.

“Coach Norvell is building something special here and I want to be a part of it.” Cromartie Jr. told Warchant.com. “FSU is also a true 'DBU' and I look forward to continuing the tradition of great defensive backs that have come through this program.”

Cromartie Jr., a three-star defensive back from Georgia, said Coach Surtain told him he wouldn't make an offer based on name alone.

“They made me an offer because they expected me to make an impact on the field for them and believed in my skills to be able to do that,” he said.

Before his visit, the younger Corner called FSU his “dream school” and explained how the university “holds a special place in my heart.”

“I've been waiting for this for a long time and now it's finally here,” he said.

Cromartie Jr. led Carrollton High School to the 6A Georgia state title game and finished his senior season with 85 tackles, four forced fumbles, four pass breakups and one interception.

The older Cromartie played 11 years in the NFL, including five with the Jets from 2010 to 2013 and 2015.

Before playing in the NFL, Cromartie played college football at Florida State University.
